March 2018 Poetry at Florey's.

Florey's Books invites you to our ongoing poetry event!

***Saturday, March 31st, 7:30-9:30pm***

The featured poets this month are Dave and Chappell Holt.

From Sherri:

Dear Friends in Poetry,

By the time we meet again, it will be spring, and our clocks adjusted! So, I'd like to invite you to come to Florey's Books for an early spring evening celebrating the creative imagination. We will welcome poets and musicians Chappell and Dave Holt who will take us in new, and resonant directions. I hope you'll consider joining us.

As always, you are invited to bring your own work to read at open mic. I ask you to limit your offering to three minutes, as a courtesy to other poets, and to Aaron Schlieve, our host, who puts in a long day in order to make his store available to us. If you are in doubt about how long it takes to read that poem or three "short" ones, time yourself. The results may surprise you!

If you can, please consider bringing a snack or drink for the refreshment table. I'm sure we can all survive a couple of hours without food or drink, but it does make our break a whole lot more enjoyable with something to sip or munch. I do want to thank all of you who consistently help out in this way; your generosity is greatly appreciated!

About the featured poets:

Chappell & Dave Holt, “The Jazzy side of Americana”

Chappell & Dave Holt are singer/songwriters who with piano, guitar and voices offer an unusual musical statement – a crossroads where jazz, blues, folk and gospel meet to create something both familiar and new, traditional and unconventional. Chappell, who began to explore merging poetry with music in songwriting, has performed extensively, written and recorded for independent films, and was an in-demand studio singer. Dave, born in Toronto of Irish/English and Ojibwe Indian ancestry, moved to California, and graduated from SF State University’s Creative Writing program (B.A. ‘93, M.A. ‘95). He’s won several poetry prizes, including a Literary/Cultural Arts award for his book Voyages to Ancestral Islands, and is included in four anthologies, most notably, Red Indian Road West: Native American Poetry from California, and Descansos: Words from the Wayside, where his poem received a Pushcart Prize nomination. He often reads and performs his poetry accompanied by Ojibwe drum or keyboard, and with Chappell on guitar and vocals.
