September 2017 Poetry at Florey's.
Florey's Books invites you to our ongoing poetry event!
***Saturday, September 16th, 7:30-9:30pm***
The featured poets this month are Lisa Rosenberg and Nan Cohen.
From Sherri:
Dear Friends in Poetry,
Please note that this month, due to the intricate art of scheduling, our reading will be on Saturday, September 16.
I hope you can consider joining us for what is going to be a superlative evening of poetry. We will welcome Lisa Rosenberg, Poet Laureate of San Mateo County, and Nan Cohen, both gifted and accomplished poets.
As always, these days, we'll begin with open mic at 7:30. You are invited to read your work (3 minutes, please), or the work of your favorite poet. You are also very welcome just to listen. Afterward, we'll have a break, followed by the featured poets. It is so much appreciated if you bring a snack, drink or supplies (plates, napkins, cups) for the table, if you can.
About the featured poets:
LISA ROSENBERG
Lisa Rosenberg is the 2017-2018 Poet Laureate of San Mateo County. She holds degrees in Physics and Creative Writing, and received a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in Poetry from Stanford University. A recovering engineer, her publications include technical and scientific articles in addition to poetry and prose in literary venues, including The Threepenny Review, POETRY, Shenandoah, Witness, Southwest Review, Poetry Daily, and The POETRY Anthology 1912 -2002. She has a series of craft essays in progress that explore connections and conflicts that can arise in multidisciplinary career paths. As Poet Laureate of a diverse Bay Area county, Lisa advocates for the expansion of poetry’s audience, authorship, influence, and subjects. She enjoys public speaking, especially for groups outside of poetry’s traditional support base; and also provides outreach to schools, workshop instruction, and community projects to showcase the poetry of local writers of all levels of experience.
NAN COHEN
Nan Cohen, the longtime poetry director of the Napa Valley Writers' Conference, is the author of two collections: Rope Bridge (2005) and Unfinished City (2017). Her work has appeared in magazines and anthologies including Ploughshares, Poet Lore, Poetry International, The New Republic and Slate. The recipient of a Wallace Stegner Fellowship, a Rona Jaffe Writer's Award, and a Literature Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, she lives in Los Angeles and teaches at Viewpoint School and the UCLA Extension Writers' Program.
